Disability Planning/Special Needs

  • How do I ensure that my child stays eligible for SSI and Medicaid if I die, and life insurance or part of my estate passes to him/her by reason of my death?
  • I have heard that it is best not to leave any assets to an adult child with disabilities if he/she is receiving government benefits. Is this true?
  • My son/daughter is going to be 18 soon. I have heard that I am going to have to go to court to be appointed his/her legal guardian. Why does a court have to be involved for me to become the guardian of my own child?
